Ghoulster 0:01

Welcome Ghoulish mortals to the podscast that keeps the spirit of Halloween alive all year through pop culture and nostalgia and now your Gost Hostess with the mostest.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 0:16

Hi guys. Welcome back to The Ghoul Mates. I'm your Ghost Hostess, Mandy and with me is our sound engineer, producer, director of photography, the guy who keeps my vision alive, Rudy.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 0:27

Hey guys, what's going on?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 0:28

Okay, guys. So before we jump into today's episode about video games, I kind of wanted to touch base on where we're going, how we see things playing out. I kind of like the format of the last episode where we had Rudy get a chance to shine with all his nerdiness and talk about film. And so I kind of was inspired and I thought maybe he should do this every episode. And I was trying to think of a name for his short little segment, and I couldn't really think of anything, and somehow the word cruel came out and it reminded me of the movie. Mean Girls when Lindsay Lohan means to say, cool, but then she starts to say great and gruel comes out, but instead it's gonna be like cruel, like Rudy's Cruel Corner. Get it? Because it's cruel, like, evil, but also cool. I don't know. Let us know in the comments. By the way, we are now on all social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. So if you have any thoughts on our cruel name, please let us know. Give us some feedback. It's still a work in progress. But I'm going to go ahead and let Rudy take over and jump into his cruel segment.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 1:38

Welcome back, schoolmates. It is Rudy. I just wanted to give you guys a quick little update. Universal was trying to do a universe with the classic monsters like Bride of Frankenstein, Frankenstein, Dracula, all those guys and I think they wanted to do it with Tom Cruise, but it didn't work so well with his movie, The Mummy but apparently, they're trying to do something different. And they hired, they hired Paul Feig. I really don't know how to pronounce his name. But apparently he's written two different scripts for a movie that centers around all the monsters called Dark Army. I don't know if it's going to be a universe like they originally wanted, but I know that they're going to be putting all the monsters together to fight humans probably. I don't know. If you remember Paul Feig was famously known for his female version of the Ghostbusters that a lot of people didn't like other movies he's worked on were The Heat, Bridesmaids, Spy.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 2:37

So he's like Melissa McCarthy's personal director?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 2:40

Yeah, he's like yeah, he's like a chick flick director, I guess you could say he's also directed a couple of episodes of The Office. So yeah, he's written two scripts. I'm pretty excited about it. I think. You know, when I first heard about the dark universe, I thought it was gonna be really cool, but it didn't work out but happy that they're gonna give it another shot.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 2:58

Interesting. Kind of weird. The kind of background he has going into a monster universe, but I don't know,

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 3:04

there might be something funny. We never know. It might be something kind of goofy. From what I've seen, he doesn't have a lot of action movie stuff. So I don't know how that's gonna work. But we'll see. I don't know.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 3:15

Maybe we're gonna get a really dark romantic love story.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 3:17

I know you. I know you're gonna love that. But yeah, that's a that's what I got in my corner.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 3:24

Awesome. So that was Rudy's Cruel Corner. Let us know if you like it. If you want him to keep talking about all his nerdy news. We're open to the good, the ugly and the ghoulish feedback. So let's keep an open conversation and let us know what else you guys want us to talk about. So let's go ahead and get started with our conversation all about video games. We're going to be covering our hunt for Nintendo Switch during the pandemic, my first Splatfest how we keep the spirit of Halloween alive through video games year round. My all time favorite video game,

Ghoulster 4:03

Luigi's Mansion.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 4:05

So something I like to do before we dive into the major subject of each episode is to kind of just lay down some background on my experience Rudy's experience so you can kind of see where we're coming from when we start talking about certain things. So my background with video games is I've pretty much played since I was a little kid. I've mentioned before that I grew up hanging out with my brother a lot. And so I kind of started out with video games towards the end of the Nintendo 64. And then I was hooked on the GameCube. And when the the Wii came out, camped out for that with my brother and my best friend. So I was pretty much around video games as a child, but then when time moved away for college, I wasn't around my brother anymore, so I kind of fell out of the video game world. And then I found that every time I tried getting back into it, like during breaks or during vacations from work, I was just like really bad at it. So I lost like confidence and trying to do it. Do you want to kind of share your experiences video games?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 5:03

Yeah, I mean, video games have always kind of been there for me and my family. I don't know if you've seen that video that kid that loses his mind when he gets a like, I think it's a Nintendo or something from like the 90's. He's like going crazy. It's like a popular video, but it was like that every Christmas. We are always waiting for that game console to like, open up and stuff and go crazy and then spend like a whole night playing during Christmas and stuff. So it's it's always been there. I spent a lot of time watching my brothers play because they were so good. I wasn't good at all. Still not good. I'm playing, you know, games with your nephew and he's always destroying me and stuff, but video games are always fun. They always kind of give you an opportunity to kind of escape things when things are crazy in your life. But yeah, that's my experience with video games.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 5:45

Well, it's funny you bring up this whole like escapism thing because I definitely feel that being in quarantine. We kind of, I think towards the beginning of the virus breaking out and everything. We were very nervous and I think I experienced anxiety for the first time in my life too. And so I think we turned to video games to kind of try to distract ourselves from things. And I started playing video games with my nephew, specifically the PlayStation 4, but all I could play with him was Mortal Kombat. And that's when I kind of told Rudy like, hey, maybe now is the time for us to finally get the Nintendo Switch like we're at home. We have time to actually learn the games and get better at them. And so it turns out that we weren't the only ones that wanted a Nintendo Switch during quarantine. It basically was impossible for nearly two weeks the Nintendo Switch was out of stock everywhere. I'm talking GameStop, Walmart, Target, Best Buy.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 6:45

Amazon.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 6:45

Amazon, even like local stores that do trade ins and sell different games like didn't have a single switch in stock. I have to give a shout out to my best friend Danny for being on the hunt with me and checking all of the stock websites to see what they'd come into stock at different stores. And I eventually got so anxious that I wasn't going to get my hands on one that I ended up caving and I purchased a Nintendo Switch Lite, and everybody who actually plays video games was like, you know that it's not like the real one that'll connect to the TV, right? And I was just like, Yes, I know. But everything is out of stock, and now the Lite's gonna be out of stock. And then I'm not gonna have anything because I thought that was going out of stock. And sure enough, literally the next morning after I ordered mine, Danny texted me in the morning and was like, GameStop has the bundles on pre order now. So I wasn't sure what to do. And I decided, well, I'll just order the bundle. And then once the light comes in, I'll decide if I like it, like if I don't like it, I'll just return it, whatever. And so it was a really long wait until GameStop finally shipped my bundle. And it turns out that we're really glad that we ended up buying both because now we're both addicted to that. So that's kind of our story. about trying to hunt down a Nintendo Switch. But what I really wanted to get into was talking about the games that we purchased and how those games have kind of helped us keep the spirit of Halloween alive even through a Spring/Summer pandemic. So to kind of really dive into this conversation, I thought I'd share with you guys which games we started out with. So the bundle we bought included Super Smash Bros, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which were actually games that I didn't originally want. And then I was super lucky and I found pre owned versions of Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2 at Zia Records. I have to give a major shout out to one of our favorite places Zia Records. They are a locally owned record store. I know they have a few locations in Arizona and Las Vegas. I believe. We will probably be mentioning them a lot more on our podcasts and our Instagram so be sure to check us out @theghoulmates and the last game that I had to purchase outside of a bundle or pre owned is my all time favorite game.

Ghoulster 9:08

Luigi's Mansion.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 9:09

So we will definitely be closing off the show with that story, so be sure to stick around. But in the meantime, I'm gonna let Rudy jump into Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 9:20

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I've always been a fan of the original Mario Kart, the one from the Super NES and the 64. So that's a great game. I like it because you get to play all these different characters throughout the Mario universe and other Nintendo properties. So apparently, they're coming out with a Mario Kart Ultimate I believe, and they're gonna have even more characters, which kind of segues me into Super Smash Bros. It's It's a weird kind of fighting game. One of the things I don't like though about the fighting game is that like you're fighting and stuff like that, but you're also like on a platform so you can easily fall off and get killed, which is kind of annoying, but they have tons of characters. There's like tons and tons of characters and apparently, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. They kind of took a note from that now they're gonna try to include some of the characters from Smash Bros in the ultimate Mario Kart, so it's gonna be cool seeing those characters. I think anytime you have like a property that delves into different little characters and stuff, always think that's cool.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 10:21

Interesting. I hope that they don't have stages where you can also fall off randomly in Mario Kart. I do have to mention, though, that I I'm and I kind of said this earlier, I'm not a fan of those two games. I was kind of like, I don't want to shell out $120 on those games, but they were also games that a lot of our friends and my nephew had so I was like, Okay, let's go ahead and get it since it's part of the bundle,

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 10:46

Right.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 10:46

However, I still haven't gotten into Super Smash Bros. But I am pretty into Mario Kart and I like it because there's a lot of spooky stages.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 10:57

There are several spooky stages in Mario Kart.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 10:59

And I really like that the music goes with the stages like I know that's a given, but especially the Luigi's Mansion one, like I love the music in that one. And then I also really love Bowser's Castle because everyone sucks at that level.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 11:16

That's the one with where he's like gigantic and stomps on you?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 11:20

Yeah I love that one. So yeah, it's been interesting to see like how they brought back the older stages and then there's newer ones on this Mario Kart. So that's pretty cool about it.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 11:31

Yeah, the only thing I don't like about it is and I think this is part of all gaming now is everything is customizable.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 11:39

Oh, yeah.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 11:39

Like the the Mario Kart that I played Mario Kart 64. You just pick the character and you just played that character. And now you have to like, pick the right wheels. You have to pick the right car body to pick the right character because they might be too heavy. And it's just like, I just want to play Mario Kart and just like drift in and out of the stages. I've been like looking here and there and like online videos like how to make your character faster. Better, and I'm getting better but I'm still getting beat by your nephew and it's, it's driving me crazy cuz it's embarrassing, but I'm gonna I'm gonna bring a Nintendo 64 to his house one of these days like let's play a real Mario Kart, and then I'll show him. What's up.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 12:13

Alright, so I'll touch briefly on Super Mario Odyssey. To be completely honest, I'm probably going to get a lot of criticism for say this. I haven't been able to get very into it. Because for me personally, a lot of the Mario games feel repetitive. Like it's kind of like you're always Mario and you're always doing the same thing. And this one specifically reminded me a lot of like the last Mario game I actually played, which was Super Mario Galaxy, on the GameCube. Actually, no, that was the Wii sorry, again, very rusty with my video game knowledge. But something I did like about Odyssey is the fact that you can like change your little Mario outfits. So that's been really fun. I every time I changed my outfit, I'm like, Rudy, come look, come look at my outfit now and he's like, that's not Mario. It is me. It's me, Maria. Maria. Okay, so I have to really take some time to talk about Splatoon to you guys, when I got this game, I had no idea what it was I just I used to ask my nephew like, hey, if I got the Nintendo Switch, like, which games would you want me to get? And he'd always talk about Splatoon. And I'd be like, well, I don't know what that is. And he talked about like, Oh, it's this game where you're like a Squidling, and you get to fight other Squidling over turf. And it just all sounded very strange to me. And I was like, I have no idea what you're talking about. So I was lucky enough to find a pre own copy of it at Zia. And so I was like, why not? It's a decent price. And I'll get to play it with my nephew. So I did it. So what happened was, I had a week to play, not even a full week like four days to play Splatoon 2 on my own, before my nephew was going to jump on on the weekend, and I knew he was going to complete own me the second he got on. So I told Rudy I better practice for these next four days, so that I'm prepared to play with him. And so before you know it in those next four days, I was hooked. Even though the game warns you not to get hooked to the beginning of it. So to kind of just explain to those who don't really know what Splatoon is, it's basically like a shooter game, but you're basically like trying to paint the town red. So whoever paints the most turf in their color wins the battle. And there's so many different things to dive into with Splatoon but I'm just going to keep it as simple as that. But my favorite part about it is that you get to choose all your gear and you make more money and level up and then the more money you get and the more higher you get in levels, the more gear you unlock. So the first time that my nephew played with me in a battle, I saw somebody wearing a Jason Vorhees mask and I freaked out. I was like, oh my god, how did she get Jason Voorhees mask? And he's like, Oh, it's easy. We could just go buy it from her after this. And I was like, What do you mean? I had just been purchasing gear from the store like regular, I would just go in and purchase gear. And he was like, yeah, if you exit the battle and you go into the market square, or Inkopolis Square, you can go up to the person that you saw in the battle, and then you can purchase the gear from them. So I was freaking out, and I was really excited. And as soon as we finished the battle, I was like, Okay, let's go buy this mask that you're talking about. So he basically taught me how to buy gear. And once I discovered that you could buy things that people were wearing. The rest was history. Because then I was like, Well now I want really cool boots to go with my Jason mask. And then I wanted a leather jacket. And so it's just really cool because you get to buy all this clothes that you would love to wear in real life and you or you could even be someone that you would have in real life. Like I can't walk around wearing a Jason mask, but I can in Splatoon 2. So another thing that I discovered with Splatoon is something they have called Splatfests. And apparently they had done away with this for a while. But Splatfest came back miraculously this past weekend. And I'm not sure why it ever went away or why it came back. But my theory is that it probably came back because of the increase of people playing Nintendo with the quarantine? And so you get to choose between two teams. This time, it was between ketchup and mayo. And I was very disappointed that my nephew chose mayo because I wanted to be catch up so that it could look like I was splatting blood everywhere. So my first experience with Splatfest was interesting. I didn't really know what to expect, but it was pretty cool because apparently they turn everything to night stages. And so you get to see all of the stages that you regularly play, but they're in night mode. And so everything looks like it's a neon colored which makes the colors of the paint even look cooler, and then you even get special stages. that you didn't have before that are only available during Splatfest. And another cool thing, during Splatfest is that you don't normally get to choose if you're going to be on the same team as the person you're playing with, like my nephew and Rudy, but during Splatfest. You could either decide to all choose the same team, so you're always on the same side. So it was pretty cool being able to be on the same team for the entire weekend. But then in a way, it still causes drama because then certain team members aka my 12 year old nephew gets mad that I'm not good enough to help his team win all the time. So that was something cool about Splatfest but something he mentioned to me was that last year, there was a vampires versus werewolves Splatfest and I freaked out. So I'm really hoping that they keep Splatfest alive long enough for a Halloween Splatfest this year.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 17:48

So if they do another Halloween one are you a vampire or a werewolf?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 17:53

Don't ask me hard questions.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 17:56

That's what we're here for. We're here for the good stuff. The hard questions. So werewolf or vampire?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 18:02

Whoever is the color purple?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 18:05

What if there is no color purple?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 18:06

There is, he told me it was purple and orange. Purple. Vampire. Boom.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 18:11

Vampire it is okay. Sounds good. So let's move on to something else. Why don't we talk about your obsession with Luigi's Mansion? It's really weird. I don't get it. But you know, you haven't even opened up the game yet? I mean, I haven't seen anybody play that game yet. So I've been playing other games, but have you even opened up the game?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 18:31

Um, no.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 18:32

Okay, what's the deal with that?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 18:34

So I guess I have to backtrack. I mentioned that I played the GameCube and when I meant GameCube I meant all I played was Luigis Mansion on it. I don't know what it was about Luigis Mansion. Maybe it's my obsession with Halloween. But when my brother bought that game, I was just like, obsessed with it. And I think part of it was because it low key scared me as a child. I was a little kid. So like playing at 12 midnight, and seeing ghosts pop up was kind of scary. Like, specifically the scene that would scare me was there was this nursing room, and there was like a little baby that would cry and the baby crying would freak me out. But somehow, like I was just hooked on the game. And I used to stay up super late playing the game so much that when I would go to sleep, I would still dream that I was vacuuming ghosts. So I was just hooked on it. And I think it's the only video game that I've gone through from start to finish and actually beating the boss on it. So I don't know, it's just this like, childhood Halloween thing that I can't shake. And actually, I think the reason you know about this is because when we went to Dave and Busters for the first time, they had a freaking Luigi's Mansion game, and it's like a real vacuum that you can use and it's huge and you're actually Luigi. So it's just so exciting. And it's terrible too because every time we go to Dave and Busters somebody is freaking using that game and everyone who gets that game stays on that game until they probably run out of money in the game. And I've unfortunately only done that once. So I don't know. It's just this. I think I've built the game up so much, that I'm terrified. I'm going to be disappointed by it.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 20:18

Yeah, ever since I met you, all you've talked about was Luigi's Mansion. And I just never knew about it really. Until we saw Dave and Busters and I saw how crazy you are about it. But it's super fun playing at Dave and Busters and I'm really looking forward to playing on the Switch if we ever get to it. But it's just crazy that you haven't opened it yet.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 20:39

I know. And I think part of it too, is I to get a little personal and serious for a second. Oh my gosh, wasn't expecting these feelers to come out. I think going into quarantine I was very emotional. Because I've never experienced something like I mean, let's be honest, nobody's freaking experienced this in their lives. And so there's a there was a lot of uncertainty. And I remember like, we'd have so many conversations where I would tell you like, just tell me worst case scenario like what are things gonna be like, and things are terrible now. Not gonna lie, but I remember what I expected back then. And things are not the way I thought in my head as far as like being quarantined and living through something, a major outbreak like this, but I just think that I really needed something to like, get my mind off of the craziness happening. And I think what I'm scared of is that there's going to be like another major outbreak where everyone goes into quarantine again, and that I'm not going to have something to pull me out of it. And so I guess in a way I'm saving Luigi's Mansion because I'm like, What if there's another thing like this in the Fall or the Winter, like Luigi's Mansion is gonna be there to keep me up at night thinking about ghosts and not a virus.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 21:59

Kind of a break in case of emergency.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 22:02

Yeah, kind of.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 22:03

Yeah, I get that.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 22:05

So I guess that was a little heavy. And I apologize. I wasn't expecting it to take that route. But let's talk about more spooky things like what other spooky games have we played? I have some in mind. But do you want to share something?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 22:19

Yes, actually kind of in the vein of Luigi's Mansion. One of the games that I got to play. That was super hard, but also fun. I got to play 1984's Ghostbuster game on the Nintendo. So they had a game where it was kind of it was kind of like ghosts and goblins. It was just like one of those rolling screen games and stuff and you would jump and shoot ghosts and stuff like that. It wasn't very good. But just seeing the artwork on there was just exciting. So I've always been a fan of Ghostbusters. And I think that's why like Luigi's Mansion so much It reminds me of Ghostbusters, who were talking about the proton pack and the ghost trap from, like the 80s that I used to have as a kid. So yeah, I love Ghostbusters, and I think that's why I like luigis Mansion so much.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 23:10

Oh God, that would be a great Halloween costume. You could be a Ghostbuster and I could be Luigi with the vacuum.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 23:17

That will be pretty cool. That'd be really cool. I've always wanted to be a Ghostbuster that might be on the table.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 23:23

The dogs could be the ghost.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 23:24

The dogs could be the devil dogs from the first Ghostbusters that protects Zuul.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 23:30

What about more recent games? What have you been playing? Because I know what you've been up to.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 23:34

So I started playing two games that are kind of spooky. Not really well, one of them is spooky. I started playing World War Z and the Friday The 13th game on PS4.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 23:47

Oh, I forgot about Friday The 13th.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 23:49

So basically in the game, you're either a victim that's trying to hide from Jason or you're actually Jason looking for these people.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 23:56

You can play the victim?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 23:57

Yeah, but and you have to escape from him, but it's super dark and you can't really see anything so he can catch up to it at any point. But I was playing as Jason, my first match and even finding the teens or the the campers and killing them was really scary. Even though even though I was Jason doing all the killing, it was just super creepy, but it was really cool. It was really well done. I don't think they're gonna do that game anymore, which is kind of sad. But I know that they have like different skins. You can be different. Jason's throughout Jason's history. I kind of wish that they would go in the direction where they start introducing more characters. I think that'd be really cool. Like if there was Freddy in there where you're supposed to hide from Freddy's dreams or something, or hide from Michael Myers. I think that'd be pretty cool. The other game I've been playing is World War Z. And it kind of reminds me of this game called Left For Dead and that one came out a couple years ago, and it's pretty cool. It's like one of those where hordes of zombies come at you and you're like, shoot all of them stuff like that and work as a team. survive in stuff. So those are the ones I've been playing recently. What about you?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 25:04

Well, I attempted to play World War Z, but I am terrible at shooter games if it's not Splatoon. I definitely have to admit, though, that Friday The 13th looks really cool. And now that you told me you could play the victim, I kinda want to do it. But I also don't know if it's gonna give me anxiety. It sounds really fun an older game to that I have played in the past and I never finished and I kind of want to start it back up now that we're doing The Ghoul Mates is Until Dawn. It was a very popular game like maybe three or four years ago, I think. And it's definitely pretty spooky. I remember feeling kinda like that feeling you get when you're like, oh, what's gonna happen? That adrenaline rush. I remember getting that. And so I've definitely been wanting to play it again. There's just so many things like video games are so life consuming, like Splatoon takes up my entire weekend like every waking hour, and there's so many video games to conquer. I lie when I say that Luigi's Mansion is my all time favorite but I guess I it's kind of like a tie I guess it's because it's in a way different game than Mortal Kombat. It's more like an RPG role playing game, right? And then Mortal Kombat is just like, I don't know what you call them, but it's a fighting game. And I've just kind of always naturally been good at Mortal Kombat. There's times when I still beat my 12 year old nephew. And that's because I don't practice like he is a very strategic player. Like he will learn combos and moves. And that's why he's good at video games, because he practices and he's strategic and he's disciplined to teach himself things. Me on the other hand, I'm just like, I'm either gonna be good at it or i'm not i'm not gonna take time for my hobby to get better, I guess if that makes sense. And so Mortal Kombat is just one of those games that I guess it's because it's a game I've consistently played as of since I was a child. But recently, Rudy convinced me to purchase the Jason character, and it is the coolest freaking beep ever.

Do you want to talk about that?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 27:10

We talked about this earlier how games have become more customizable, and stuff. So Mortal Kombat also has DLCs so you can upgrade the game that you purchased, which is pretty genius. Sometimes we'll get bored and we'll go through all the sales and deals on the PS4 or the Nintendo Switch. And lo, to my surprise, there was a Jason Vorhees skin that I really wanted to get because I'm obsessed with Jason Vorhees. And you know, I was hey, let's get that like, it looks pretty cool. She's like, Oh, yeah, like it's a match made in heaven. I love Mortal Kombat. And you love Jason. So let's get it. There's other characters too, I think,

Ghost Hostess Mandy 27:44

Ah, the vampire version of Mileena.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 27:47

Yeah, there's a vampire version. And Mileena recently though, and this is not the Mortal Kombat that we have, but they just released Robocop and Terminator. So I saw them like fight because usually they'll put a video on YouTube. To show like what their finishing moves are and what they do, and oh, it was like insane. It was crazy. You know how like some of the characters have special moves when they get like power ups or whatever. Robocop the robot that he fights in the first Robocop comes out and he helps him out and shoots up the character so that's pretty cool.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 28:15

I'm laughing because really made the funniest little like moves.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 28:18

Guns? My hands are like little machine guns. But yeah, I think it's pretty cool. I remember Mortal Kombat was like a huge thing when I was a kid. We used to play it at Chuck E. Cheese but Chuck E. Cheese when they had the animatronic dolls.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 28:34

Creepy.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 28:35

That you put in a quarter and you would like sing a song and stuff like that. And then I think they had like a carousel to inside the Chuck E. Cheese but yeah, Mortal Kombat. And I'm still the best and in this family.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 28:46

Oh, really? You want to talk about how you got that title.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 28:49

You don't ever beat me and Mortal Kombat.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 28:52

Tell them why.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 28:53

A win is a win either an inch or a mile a win is a win Vin Diesel. The Fast and The Furious. What's up?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 29:00

Are you done?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 29:01

I'm done.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 29:02

You win through cowardice. First, you punch me once, and then you move back like a coward. And you let the time run out and jump around so that I can't hit you. I'd like to hear what our audience thinks. Let us know on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, The Ghoul Mates. Do you think letting the time run out on the clock is a fair win? Because I just call it cowardice.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 29:27

Hey, do you think Vin Diesel is a coward? No.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 29:31

Vin Diesel does no wrong.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 29:33

Exactly. I follow the teachings of Sir Vin Diesel.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 29:37

Sir Vin Diesel? You don't even like those movies.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 29:41

A win is a win.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 29:43

I do want to before we get off of the Mortal Kombat train, I do have to go a little more into the Jason character because I was shooketh about it. There's different modes that characters have right, and Jason has a mode called unstoppable. So obviously, you don't know any of this when you're playing it for the first time. So I'm very sorry for ruining it for you. But also, you're welcome because you're probably gonna want to go buy it now. Basically unstoppable means that the first time you kill him, he comes back to life. But the way he comes back to life is the coolest freaking thing ever. It plays the little. And then he gets back up. And it's so cool. And it's the creepiest thing ever. If you're not expecting it, even if you are the first time it happens, it's a little unsettling. He is a super strong character for his size and really fast for his size too on Mortal Kombat, I could talk about different characters and their strengths all day. But I just really really love his character and what he had to bring to the Mortal Kombat table. So I something that I think we should keep doing more often is bringing back that lightning round we had from the first episode, and I totally didn't prepare questions, this time. I'm so don't feel any pressure to ask me super amazing questions. But I don't know what do you think you want to do a lightning round about video games?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 31:08

Sure. Let's do it. I'm going first. Or you're going first?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 31:11

Let's switch it up. You go first this time.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 31:13

Oh, okay. Um, lightning round. Dessert Island video game. What's the one video game you can't live without?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 31:21

Splatoon 2, because there's so much to it. You'll never get bored.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 31:25

Give me an insult you give to a 12 year old kid that's been trashing you all day on multiplayer game. Let's say I'm the 12 year old kid. I'm like, girl, you're trash. What is your come back?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 31:39

I don't know. I don't know. I'm so bad at trash talking. I don't know the game lingo yet.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 31:46

Well, your trash when we're playing Mortal Kombat.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 31:48

Spoken like a true Simp.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 31:50

Hey.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 31:52

Shout out to Oscar for teaching me gamer lingo.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 31:56

Okay, let's move on. favorite game console and why?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 32:03

Um, I really liked the Nintendo Switch. I know that sounds generic and like, oh, well, it's because it's the newest thing, but I just haven't played in so long and I love handheld.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 32:14

Why do you fear? Why do you fear shooter games so much?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 32:23

What do you mean fear?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 32:25

Yeah, you never want to play the shooter games.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 32:29

It's so hard to control your little target thing.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 32:33

You're doing the same thing you do on Splatoon just on a TV.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 32:37

I know.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 32:37

I don't understand why but you can't do it.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 32:39

The little thumbsticks on Nintendo are like baby proofed. Like they're easy to aim things at and the PlayStation one is hard.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 32:49

I think that's gonna be one of my comebacks is like at least I'm not using baby thumbsticks. Let's play a real man's game.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 32:58

A console you mean?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 32:59

Let's go. Play basketball in the back with a real ball.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 33:04

Okay, um,

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 33:05

I'm not done yet.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 33:06

Sorry.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 33:07

Jeez! Calma calmate tus caballos calma whatever. Okay, my last question. It's gonna be a good one. Okay, out of all the pop culture knowledge that you have. What pop culture thing would you turn into a video game?

Ghost Hostess Mandy 33:24

Oh, that is a good question and I kind of knew you were gonna ask it. Oh my gosh, are you ready for this?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 33:34

I'm ready for this.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 33:34

I don't know how it would work. But

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 33:37

Before we get into this, whatever she says is copyrighted.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 33:40

Oh. You're not gonna like it. It's not your cup of tea. So last year, Manny MUA which is this major makeup artists from YouTube has his own makeup company. And he released a Moonspell Color Palette. I don't own it. And I'm sad about it, but he named every single eyeshadow palette after a different witch from different universes. I'm talking like the girls from The Craft, Hocus Pocus, Sabrina, I might be making some of them up, but it was just so cool to hear like all the witches names that you've ever heard, so it would be super cool if you could create like a witch game where you could choose which badass which you want to be like today. I want to be Sabrina, but I'm gonna ride with Winifred's broom, and I don't know what you would do. Maybe you'd go around casting spells on a loser boy. I don't know. But that sounds really spooky and cool.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 34:34

Yeah, that already put me to sleep. Okay, it's my turn. Let's do this.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 34:40

Okay, um, favorite Mario Kart character.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 34:44

Pos Mario. Mario is my favorite.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 34:47

Pos.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 34:47

Mario. Mario is my favorite Mario Kart character. But after Mario would probably be Wario actually because I was always I always ended up being Wario because of my brothers because one of them would Be Mario, when would it be Luigi, and I'm like, I guess i'll be Wario. So, Wario or Mario.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 35:07

That's confusing.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 35:09

We live in confusing times right now.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 35:12

What is one game that you are so bad at? You just couldn't play it anymore.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 35:18

I think the game that I was terrible at and I just gave up on would be Call of Duty. When they first started doing like online matches and doing like multiplayer, I would try to play with my brother and I was terrible. I just jumped into a match. And then like that I was dead. And then I come back respond dead again. But

Ghost Hostess Mandy 35:38

Like me.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 35:39

Like you, but recently, I started playing the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare and like I've gotten better.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 35:46

Okay, which video game would you want to turn into an amusement park ride?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 35:52

I would say Mario Kart, I'd love to have a Mario Kart Mario themed theme park. I think that'd be really cool.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 36:00

I think they are doing that.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 36:02

Are they doing that? I think they should. It'd be cool to have like, go karts, but you're like you're sitting inside Kirby or Mario or whatever character and you're just driving around in a go kart. I think that'd be pretty cool.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 36:14

Okay, since you gave me so much crap about my answer, which pop culture thing would you turn into a video game?

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 36:22

You know what I would create a video game based on Spirit, the Halloween store, like it would be a Halloween store that you go into and you have to like put together like the best costume you can and go to like a party and get points for looking cool. Something along those lines because like there's so much to do in Spirit and it'd be really cool to like develop a game out of that.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 36:46

That's actually a good idea. Okay, this is also copyrighted guys. Or also, like, it could be about that, but then you can also incorporate like, Trick or Treat somehow and then you like TP someone's house when they don't give you candy.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 37:02

Yes, yeah,

Ghost Hostess Mandy 37:02

I don't know how it would work.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 37:03

So it could it could be almost like Scooby Doo where you go to different houses that are haunted, and there's different levels and you're looking for as much candy as possible. But then they have like these little side games where you have to TP someone's house or eat as much corn candy as possible. Or something like that. What else is a Halloween thing or like bobbing for apples or something like that.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 37:25

Yeah all the fun Halloween activities, or carving a jack o lantern.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 37:31

Carving a pumpkin that'd be a pretty cool video game but it all starts at a Halloween store and you have to gear up with all your best costumes.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 37:38

You have to choose your gear to survive the Halloween night. Okay, guys, well that was it for today's episode unless there's anything you want to add.

Master of Scaremonies Rudy 37:49

So yeah, I just wanted to thank our listeners for tuning in. I hope that you know, we brighten up your day a little bit in this spooky podcast that we have you know if you want to to talk about something or review something or just, you know, keep doing we're doing let us know, let us know how we're doing. And just stay safe out there. I know. It's like, I know it's not easy not knowing what's ahead of us. But you know, we're here for you, just like you're here for us. So, you know, stay strong, and you know, stay safe.

Ghost Hostess Mandy 38:18

Yeah, for sure. I think something that came out of this episode was, we didn't realize the impact that our emotions had on all of these spooky things we're creating. And so when the world is too scary, create your own spooky magic to distract you from those things. And so that being said, I am super excited to announce next week's theme, because we have some super exciting content to share with you guys on our Instagram. You're not gonna want to miss it. But let me give you a teaser. Dun dun dun dun Dun dun dun dun. So in case you couldn't figure it out from my really bad music impersonation. We're going to be covering Shark Week. I know Shark Week does not happen in June. But we are in the middle of a pandemic. We can't really go to the pool the way we want. And so we're going to be celebrating sharks in our own personal way, minus the actual beach or pool. So stay tuned. In the meantime, please reach out to us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, The Ghoul Mates, we are sharing pop culture, and nostalgia on Halloween with you guys every day. I know that our podcasts aren't pro level yet, but I think our content on Instagram is just tooting my own horn here, but if you disagree, we are open to hearing the good, the bad and the ghoulish. But until then, sending you guys ghouls and kisses. Bye.
